Wordfence finding non-existent plugin update

    Hi there WF peeps,

    I have an issue with one site showing a Wordfence ‘CRITICAL’ issue

    It says ‘The plugin “” needs an upgrade.’
    – just empty quote marks where the name would be – very odd!

    It also gives a ‘New Plugin Version‘ of ‘5.4.0‘ – but none of my plugins (there’s only 4) are anywhere near that level!

    I’ve tried deactivating the plugins, and even deleting, but nothing helps, yet Wordfence is finding a false positive… I even reinstalled WP, but the ‘update’ persists!

    Any help??

    Any hope of a response from Wordfence please, regarding this issue?

    I can stop it from happening ONLY by turning off the particular monitor that spots changes or updates required in the Wordfence settings.

    If I turn this back on, I get the same problem back after scanning.

    It is currently turned off so I don’t keep getting notified as there is nothing to update.

    Is this a bug, or has something broken slightly?

    UPDATE:

    I have temporarily ‘resolved’ this by installing a secondary generic theme, and briefly switching to it, then back.

    I understand that it may not be WF at the core of it, but WF is picking up an ‘update’ for a plugin that doesn’t exist …it seems.

    Any comments?

    Hi Steve.

    We’re sorry but free support is limited on the weekends, though we do try to have someone in here daily.

    I’m curious. You say the problem goes away when you switch themes? Is it possible there is a plugin that was bundled with the theme that has the problem that might be customized for the theme or something?
