    Hi, my site crashed and when I go into recovery mode, I had to deactivate Wordfence before it can work again. I tried to activate it and saw the following error message:

    Warning: require_once(/home/<my internal URL>/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/lib/wfUtils.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in?/<my internal URL>/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/lib/wfIssues.php?on line?2

    Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required ‘/<my internal URL>/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/lib/wfUtils.php’ (include_path=’.:/opt/cpanel/ea-php74/root/usr/share/pear’) in?/<my internal URL>/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/lib/wfIssues.php?on line?2

    How can I resolve this?

  • Same here. Uploading /wp-content/plugins/wordfence/lib/wfUtils.php from a previous Wordfence-version solved the problem.

    Same here. Had to disable it on all my websites that were running it.

    Same issue, rolling back to the previous version (7.9.1) until this is fixed.

    Plugin Support wfphil

    Hi @sukuchen

    We have seen at least one hosting provider using a server anti-malware software package that incorrectly identifies our safe file as malicious.

    The provider (malware.expert) said that they removed the malware signature from their database, but it could take time for hosting providers to update it. Even if the hosting providers updated it, they may not put back the file that was removed in error, leaving their customers’ sites broken.

    You will need to inform your hosting provider of the problem and reinstall the plugin.

    joopan in this thread was able to fix this by replacing the bad file “/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/lib/wfUtils.php” with a previous version. Someone else rolled back and fixed it. Is it just the latest version that is flagged as malware?

    Thanks for the info igor!

    Yeah we have had it happen on multiple sites. Deleting the DB tables or selecting the options to delete on activation an manually removing the files doesn’t seem to work. I see a lot of this problem popping up on the forums, wordfence isn’t being very responsive about it.
