My wordpress website showed that it was not secure. I looked for a plugin that could make it secure and found wordfence. I installed wordfence and immediately after the first scan, my site went down. I did follow the instructions for removing wordfence, including adding the wordfence assistant and following the steps but my site is still down. I am not sure what I did incorrectly. I have also gone in, one by one, and deactivated each plugin and checked the site.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Hello @pemrich1 and thanks for reaching out to us!

Wordfence shouldn’t cause your site to crash unless your site’s hosting plan possibly cant support the scan feature.

I would love to try and assist you with this issue. With Wordfence installed, can you send a diagnostic report to wftest @ wordfence . com? You can find the link to do so at the top of the Wordfence Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

If you would prefer to just remove Wordfence, here is how to complete the removal:

    • Remove extended protection manually (https://www.wordfence.com/help/firewall/optimizing-the-firewall/#removing-the-optimization)
    • Remove the wordfence plugin folder located in wp-content/plugins
    • Remove the wflogs folder located in wp-content
    • Remove wordfence-waf.php located in the root of you WordPress installation
    • Remove all Wordfence related database tables from the database, using for example phpMyAdmin or Wordfence Assistant plugin.
    • Check either .htaccess file or .user.ini depending on your server configuration and remove any code snippets wrapped by # Wordfence WAF and # END Wordfence WAF.

    Thanks again!

I did mention that I already deleted wordfence. Are there additional steps that I need to take?

@wfadam I had an issue yesterday with the plugin taking up too much CPU and causing the server to restart. I’ll send a diagnostics email. Up until now, it has worked perfectly!

@pemrich1 As long as you followed the guide I provided, Wordfence should be completely removed.

@tyler0001 As per forum guidelines below, could you please open your own topic and we would be glad to assist you:
“Unless users have the exact same version of WordPress on the same physical server hosted by the same hosts with the same plugins, theme, and configurations, then the odds are the solution for one user will not be the same for another. For this reason, we recommend people start their own topics.”

    Thanks again!
