Hi @hopkirk, thanks for reaching out to us over this issue.
Whilst we are constantly working on making the plugin faster, perform better, and use less resources, there are not set amounts of RAM, CPU or database queries that we know Wordfence will definitely require in each use-case or hosting environment.
Most hosts don’t seem to set max_questions as far as we know, or set it to such a high value that we never reach it, so we don’t see this cropping up particularly often in our sizeable userbase. Wordfence’s scan does make a lot of database queries as it runs, but they’re generally simple/fast ones.
The amount of queries made depends on variables like how many other plugins are running, and how large your site is. Removing old inactive plugins that aren’t being used can make the scan run less queries, which might help, but it may not be enough.
Try contacting your host to see if they can relax the restriction, and in the mean time we could take a look at your diagnostic report to see if anything sticks out as a reason this might be occurring. You can send the diagnostic report to wftest @ wordfence . com. The link to do so is at the top of the Wordfence Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.
Note: For the fastest response time, please make sure and add any information or questions directly to this topic and not the email address above unless asked.
Thanks,
Peter.
