• Wordfence Central stoped to comunicate with WF plugins on 4 of my WP webpages.

I tryed to remove page from WF Central and add again. I did clear all connection data from plugin. I did remove plugin and earesed all data and clear .htaccess and .user.ini. After new installation I got the same error: Unable to communicate with WF plugin.

    Any clue?

Hi @webdocopy, thanks for getting in touch about this.

I took a look at the address above and it seems like the REST API is available for Wordfence Central, but /wp-login and /wp-admin are both unavailable, returning 404s.

With certain “security through obscurity” methods such as this, we feel this only serves to slightly slow down somebody with malicious intent rather than stop them entirely: https://www.wordfence.com/blog/2017/10/should-you-hide-wordpress-login-page/

If you’re running a plugin or other manually configured way to hide the above paths, try connecting Wordfence Central with it disabled. Please note that we’ve recently had to add “Change wp-admin login (change-wp-admin-login)” to our incompatibility list, but you may not be running this.

    Thanks,
    Peter.

    Hi Peter,

I’m sure that this is not my issue. I am hiding  /wp-admin on all my sites and I have got only 4 disconnected from FW Central.

Anyway I did disable the plugin which hiding the wp login page and still facing the same issue.

    Any clue?

Hi @webdocopy, thanks for getting back to me.

Yes, if hiding the login URL is consistent across all sites, but only some of the sites work we’ll have to consider other issues. We do accept that some customers choose to hide their /wp-admin, and provided there are no long-term issues of course you can continue doing so. It’s always a good check though as I know Central will try that path when connecting.

Could you send us a diagnostic report from one of the affected sites so I can look into connectivity and other Wordfence settings? Send it to wftest @ wordfence . com using the link at the top of the Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

NOTE: It should look as follows – Screenshot of Tools > Diagnostic > Send by Email

    Thanks,
    Peter.

    Hi Peter,

I did parallel research with web-hosting support. Generally they have strict FW rules against Amazon AWS so the communication between FW plugin and FW Central was blocked. After their FW rules update everything works.

Anyway, thank you for your help.

    Have a nice day.

    Tomas
