Wordfence broke after enabling 2FA

  • Ever since I enabled 2FA in Wordfence all hell has broken loose. First, I cannot login to the wp-admin unless I FTP in and rename the wordfence folder. If I try to login before renaming it I get the “ERROR: An error was encountered while trying to authenticate. Please try again.”

    If I rename it back the way it was while logged into the admin portal and reactivate the plugin, I cannot change ANY settings. Including deactivating 2FA, it gives me an error “Error Deactivating 2FA – An error was encountered while trying to deactivate two-factor authentication. Please try again”.

    I’ve tried uninstalling the plugin and reinstalling. I’ve also tried installing the Wordfence Assistant plugin which also does not allow any changing of settings. Its like once the 2FA option was flipped on it gives a big FU for the entire site unless you rename the plugin.
