    Hello,

I have correctly setup an smtp plugin (easy smtp). If wordfence is disabled, all emails goes well. When wordfence is enabled i can’t send test emails from the smtp plugin or either from wordfence “Diagnostics -> send test email”. I have tested with other smtp plugins (wp smtp), problem is the same. My wordpress administration email is the same as the one set in the smtp plugin, and in the notification emails in wordfence. I’ve tried by turning wordfence in learning mode.. no change. Please help

    Thank you

  • I use an smtp plugin as well, but dont seem to have any issues. I’m using WP Mail SMTP. You could also try and add the IP address of the server you’re mailing from into the whitelist at Advanced Firewall Options.

Thanks for your quick answer, but unfortunately this doesn’t help.
Even with whitelisting the IP of my server, no emails goes through.
The thing is that i have different servers on different hosting company, the problem appear only on one of them ( o2switch )…

Hi @randigital, thanks for getting in touch.

My suspicion is that you may need to speak to o2switch regarding the setup of SMTP for this site. The reason I say this is because you mention having working cases of Wordfence (with Easy SMTP active?) on different servers/hosts and other Wordfence customers that use various SMTP plugins are doing so without issue.

We have no prior cases I can find with o2switch being a problematic host for running Wordfence correctly, so it could be a configuration issue at the server rather than an out-and-out compatibility problem.

Do Wordfence emails send from this site with no SMTP plugins present? Are you seeing blocks appear in your Live Traffic when manual email sends are attempted? If not, this would explain why Learning Mode didn’t change the outcome.

General email troubleshooting we recommend would also be:

    • Your web server is having a problem with the email software on it. This isn’t like regular emails you send and receive, but rather server alert messages. Usually, a restart of postfix or sendmail (whichever is installed) can fix it. Your hosting provider may need to help with this.
    • Your hosting provider has disabled SMTP from the server for some reason like preventing the server from being used to spam people.
    • The third party plugin for sending emails uses another service, like Gmail, which isn’t working. Reaching out to the plugin author for support can help.

    Thanks,

    Peter.
