Wordfence and its firewall prevent Word Press from being used. There is an error message when trying to access the site:

Warning: Unknown: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0

    Fatal error: Unknown: Failed opening required ‘/home2/neptujfk/public_html/wordfence-waf.php’ (include_path = ‘.: / Opt / alt / php56 / usr / share / pear: / opt / alt / php56 / usr / share / php ‘) in Unknown on line 0

The remedies in the add-on instructions do not work. Simply use is Wordfence Assistant. Unfortunately, it can’t be adjusted because the site cannot be accessed. The fault may be in directing to the “wordfence-waf” file under server control. This is difficult for the user to find out.

    What could I do?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi @neptun,

If you have FTP access to your site, please go into your site and edit .htaccess or .user.ini to remove any references of wordfence-waf.php.

If you do not have direct access to FTP, please ask your hosting provider to rename .htaccess or .user.ini to a different name.

    Hi again!

Can you try these steps to quickly regain access?

    1. Create a file named wordfence-waf.php within /home2/neptujfk/public_html/
    2. Inside the file should be empty
    3. Save it and refresh your website

Now once you have regained access to WordPress, you can go in and remove the plugin or reinstall Wordfence.

Best thanks for the good answer. I believe it’s a remedy. Now I just can’t get it. The site has been restored from webhost backups.

The cause of the bug was the automated update of Wordfence. Now, for the sake of certainty, Wordfence is currently disabled. I can restore it when it is certain that its version will not cause this error again. Next version?

    Many thanks wfdave!

    Hi again!

I think during the update, wordfence-waf.php might have been corrupted. There doesn’t seem to be issues with the latest version of Wordfence.

Reinstalling Wordfence should cause no issues, but if it does, please do come back and we’ll be happy to assist you!

Thanks Dave again! Wordfence is now disablet, not deleted. Shall I able it again without that terrible possibility? I belive this is the version bebore update. So it will wait the update.

    Hi again,

You should be able to activate Wordfence again without an issue.

If it does start acting up again, please post back and I’ll try to assist you!

    Dave
