I went to launch my site and update to the new wordpress, now all I get is this message on my site:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare get_post_gallery() (previously declared in /home/content/50/10988050/html/wp-includes/media.php:1997) in /home/content/50/10988050/html/wp-content/themes/rockwell-1/functions.php on line 240

I cannot log into my prieview dns or view my site. I don’t know what this means or what to do.

  • Try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    – running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php

You know I’ve noticed others had similar issues with running this update, and I’ve seen similar advice on this forum. My issue is I don’t have the slightest clue on how to do any of that. I’m very new to wordpress, and I’m not familiar with FTP or any of that.

I’m sorry but there is no magic bullet in these situations. This is just the start of basic troubleshooting and is a process of elimination deliberately designed to locate the root cause as quickly as possible by first removing the most obvious and common culprits via a series of (often) temporary steps. If you cannot manage this yourself, you may want to consider hiring someone

Yea I’ll have to look into hiring someone most likely. I’m paying for a site that I cannot even log into. There aren’t any step to step directions with this stuff. It is a bit frustrating, because this is due to an update. is what it is.

Try this Fix – worked for us.

    – Download via FTP or FileManager the “wp-includes/media.php” and edit file via html/text editor

    – “Search and Replace” Ctrl+F – for “get_post_gallery”
with the new code “ff_get_post_gallery” and re-upload media.php, refresh cache/clear cookies!

-Hope it works for you guys as well!

Latest Theme version is 2.0, this error appears in 1.7.1 version.

    If doesn’t work/solve:

Update the “single post templates .php” files.as well in with the same “Search and Replace” Ctrl+F – for “get_post_gallery”
with the new code “ff_get_post_gallery” and re-upload.

“single post templates that you are using from the theme (for me this was just 2).”

No! Never, ever, edit WordPress core files!

If you ‘Backed Up’ your site before the update you can restore the data if anything further is an issue; for your particular theme, doing as the above has solved the problem for others.

The theme should be fixed. WordPress is not broken – the theme is.

    Hi, all.

While doing an automatic update last night (Aug. 23, 2013), my site crashed and I got this error message:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare wp_convert_bytes, etc. … deprecated.php:3364, etc.

After four calls to my web host (Pair.com) and trying to follow the manual update instructions, I ended up with the generic WordPress homepage at my 4,200-post, 24,000-comment site: https://masterstrack.com

I have my original wp_content folder on my laptop, plus the original theme and an entire backup of the site.

So now I need help connecting the dots. How do I get my old content, themes and plug-ins onto the site?

Thanks for your patience with me, winner of AOL Member Homepage of the Month for November 1996.

My site is fixed, with WordPress 3.6 working well.

The new code “ff_get_post_gallery” worked great for me. I”m in and updated. Many Thanks Forum Help!

@big-picture You’re welcome friend, always glad to help out when it’s needed.
