    Hi there,
I’m about to build a subscription site but wabt to check if the following is possible.
We want to sell a subscription to a software platform as well as physical products.

The user can buy the physical products as a once-off purchase or on a subscription basis. If they buy a product on a subscription basis they automatically get FREE access to the software platform.

Will subscriptions handle this or will I need a few plugins to achieve this result. If so, which ones?

  • Hi there!

We want to sell a subscription to a software platform as well as physical products.

The user can buy the physical products as a once-off purchase or on a subscription basis. If they buy a product on a subscription basis they automatically get FREE access to the software platform.

To offer a product both as a one-time purchase and as a subscription, besides WooCommerce Subscriptions, you’ll also need an additional extension: All Products for WooCommerce Subscriptions. We do have a use case that may help you as guidance for setting things up:

    https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/all-products-for-woocommerce-subscriptions/use-case-offering-subscription-boxes/

If you want to try it, we have a 30-day refund policy. If the product doesn’t work the way you need or you think another product would work better, we are more than happy to provide a full refund. You can read more about our refund policy on our website here: https://woocommerce.com/refund-policy/

I hope that’s helpful and points you in the right direction. Let us know if you have more questions.

    Cheers!

    This looks like the answer.
Would this plugin then allow a free access to the software platform on a subscription basis?

I.e. if I buy product A on subscription I’ll get Product B subscription for free?

Would this plugin then allow a free access to the software platform on a subscription basis?

Before I can answer that more accurately, can you clarify if by software platform you mean an external resource or something on your site?

If you want to restrict content on your very site and grant access to only paying users, you may want to evaluate WooCommerce Memberships. It integrates with WooCommerce Subscriptions indeed. One will add the subscription functionality and the other one will allow access to specific content based on the paid membership plan.

You may want to take a look at this support page about the two extensions working together: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/woocommerce-memberships-subscriptions-integration/

I.e. if I buy product A on subscription I’ll get Product B subscription for free?

The conditional logic like this can be implemented with AutomateWoo that allows creating workflows that are triggered by specific actions like the one you mentioned.

Let me know if you still have questions about the above.

    Enjoy your day ahead!

It would be hosted on a sub-domain. I think the app developer would handle that.
He’d use a webhook to determine who had subscribed and attribute access based on the subscription.

I guess in summary Woocommerce Subscriptions + your plugin would allow us to achieve that.

Thanks for the clarification. From what you describe, the two plugins above should be a good start for you indeed.

Since it touches a bit on a development topic, I can recommend the WooCommerce Developer Resources Portal for resources on developing for WooCommerce.

On top of that, you can also visit the WooCommerce Facebook group or the #developers channel of the WooCommerce Community Slack. We’re lucky to have a great community of open-source developers for WooCommerce, and many of our developers hang out there, as well.

I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, you can start a new thread.

    Cheers!
