WooCommerce Shop page no cart items total

Using WooCommerce and the Ashe theme I have a “shop” page which shows my products. There is an “add to cart” button under the product. It’s functional. But I have two problems…
1) There is no feedback you have clicked on the button except the text dimming slightly. I would like to provide a message “added to cart” or something
2) There is no cart symbol. There is a “cart” in the menu bar that takes you to the cart page but I would prefer a cart symbol on the shop page showing the number of items in the cart and a “view cart” option.
What are my choices to improve the page functionality? Thanks

Both of your request do appear to be theme related. When using the standard Storefront theme, when a product is added to the cart a “View Cart” button appears, as well as the cart symbol is updated in the menu bar.
