I’m using WooCommerce Services to handle my Sales & Use Tax. It seems to work fine, except whenever I download the tax reports, it doesn’t tell me what city & county the tax was collected for. Instead, it gives a generic name like “US-NV-NV TAX-1”.

I learned that I can change these names whenever I go to WooCommerce -> Settings -> Tax. The problem is that anytime a new customer makes a purchase for a city that we have never collected tax on, the new location has a default tax name of “NV TAX”.

This is a problem because even if I change the name after the new location is used & rerun the tax report, it does not change the tax name. Please see the attached screenshot below: https://prntscr.com/um39f2.

As you can see from the screenshot, there is no way in the report to tell what city/county the tax was collected for, and this is important when filing taxes.

  • Hi there,

If you do have a tax nexus in several states, you have two options:

    1. Disable Automated Taxes and then manually set up all the tax rates that you want to charge under the WooCommerce > Settings > Tax tab.

    or

    2. Use a tax platform such as TaxJar or Avaara, that is integrated with WooCommerce. These companies aren’t free though and do charge a fee for their calculation services.

    Hi,

I only have tax nexus in 1 state. I would just like a way to pull the tax reports and show a break down of taxes charged by city and/or county. This is important for tax reporting features. When you report taxes, you need to specify what city/county the taxes were collected for.

I see that many others also want this feature: https://ideas.woocommerce.com/forums/133476-woocommerce/suggestions/2508921-create-detailed-tax-report-for-woocommerce.

Is there currently any workarounds for this?

    Hi there,

    Thanks for the additional information.

For this purpose, you can check out this tax plugin.

    Hi @kosiew,

Thank you for the information. Is there any plans to fix this in the future? It seems like a relatively easy fix to add the city into the default tax name. For example, instead of saying “US-NV-NV TAX-1”, it could say “US-Las-Vegas-NV TAX 1”.

Or is there any planned workaround for this? This is really important for tax reporting purposes as this is required for all states and I know we are not the only ones that need this functionality.
