Woocommerce sending 2 emails on new order

    Hi all, I recently started using wordpress + woocommerce. Recently(as of a week ago-ish), I’ve been getting duplicate new order emails to both my e-mail and to the customer’s e-mail. All other emails to my knowledge are just fine. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello,

    This kind of problem is usually caused by a conflict with your theme or with another plugin. The best way to determine this is to:

    • Temporarily switch your theme to Storefront
    • Disable all plugins except for WooCommerce
    • Test to see if the issue has been resolved

    If you’re not seeing the same problem after completing the conflict test, then you know the problem was with the plugins and/or theme you deactivated. To figure out which plugin is causing the problem, reactivate your other plugins one by one, testing after each, until you find the one causing conflict. You can find a more detailed explanation on how to do a conflict test here.

    1. I am using the Storefront theme already, just with a bunch of colors changed in the customizer.

    2. Honestly I don’t really have many plugins – just the bare minimum for the most part. Woocommerce/payments/shipping is a given, WP Mail SMTP is needed to send e-mails, and I turned on WP Mail Logging because of these duplicate email issues. That leaves just Simple CSS and Jetpack. I suppose I could disable jetpack but considering its popularity and also by Automattic I would be surprised if this was the issue.

    Hi @speedypotato,

    It is possible that there is a setting mixup regarding the WP Mail SMTP plugin. I would double check the settings and also check with your Host to see if they see something which might be the root cause. If you can (if there is the possibility) you can disable the WP Mail SMTP plugin and configure email through your Host, and see if the issue persists.

    I’ve looked around WP Mail SMTP settings and didn’t see much. Also checked sendinblue but nothing seemed out of the ordinary there either.

    My hosting setup uses a VPS so I suppose I could look into setting something up. I’m unfortunately not too familiar with how e-mail works and when setting up wordpress on both a dedicated machine and VPS I wasn’t able to send e-mails with wordpress’ default system – which led me to setup WP Mail SMTP.

    It’s been a few days and I’ve been watching the e-mail logs. It seems to be a 50-50 chance for a duplicate e-mail to be sent. Oddly enough, only the “New Order” e-mails get duplicated too still.

    Just counted:

    11 orders which only sent out one “New Order” email
    8 orders which sent out a duplicated “New Order” e-mail

    Please take a screenshot of the order notes from an order that sent out duplicate emails. Sometimes a misconfigured payment gateway can trigger duplicate emails. You can take the screenshot and upload the file to your site’s Media Library. Then share the link to it in the forum post.

    @scionet I think we’re getting close, I’ve looked through a couple orders which sent out duplicate emails and the order notes are very odd.

    The duplicate orders I checked all show 2 lines of Pending -> Processing: https://i.imgur.com/2rawavb.jpg

    We suspect it’s whatever has triggered the duplicate status changes to “processing”. Sadly, there isn’t an indication from the note as to what has triggered this.
