woocommerce Rest api not work in Multiple sites mode
Hi team,
My webiste was build in the Multiple Sites mode. I create a woocommerce Rest API(read/write) in one of the sub-site, but the result show”Error: Sorry, you cannot list resources.”

This error only appears in the sub-site in Multiple Sites mode.
My other website that bulid in single site mode did not have such error. The woocommerce rest api work in single site mode.

So please help how to solve the error in the Multiple Sites mode.

It seems you are encountering an issue related to the permissions set for the user role in the REST API. The API uses its own set of permissions, which are separate from the permissions set in WordPress or WooCommerce.

The error message you’re receiving,?Sorry, you cannot list resources, typically indicates that the user role assigned doesn’t have the necessary permissions to view or retrieve the data from the endpoint.

What user role were you using? Are you using any plugins that modify user roles?

Furthermore, I’d like to understand your site properly. Please share with us the System Status Report which you can find via WooCommerce > Status > Get system report > Copy for support.

Hi team, I had try to use admin and super admin to create the woocommerce rest api from the woocommerce-setting-Advanced-rest api

check my screenshot, this is a sub-sites woocommerce in the multisites mode. the website is https://vadania.ca/

I had try to create the rest api from my other website that build on single side mode and they work.

I am using the api to request the woocommerce order data. And the second website work and get the data successfully, but the first webiste that build on multiple website mode did not work.

So I wonder if the multi-site model has an additional layer of identity recognition or security recognition, not like the single site mode, which makes it impossible to obtain the woocommerce order data directly through the sub-site’s API.

So I wonder if the multi-site model has an additional layer of identity recognition or security recognition, not like the single site mode, which makes it impossible to obtain the woocommerce order data directly through the sub-site’s API.

It is possible to obtain data from API on multisite.

I see you have outdated version of WooCommerce.

We recommend keeping everything updated. Regularly updating plugins helps maintain your site’s security, performance, and compatibility while ensuring you benefit from the latest features and improvements.

Please update WooCommerce and the theme and any other plugin that needs it and check if the issue persists.

Also, I found a thread where the user got the same error message as you, on the error message do you get the error code 401?

You can take a look at the thread and how it was solved here.
The workaround?involves modifying the authorization header. If you want to try it, please try it at your own risk as I’m not fully sure if this will produce any security issues, and code customization is out of our scope of support.

I have tried to update the woocommerce and the 401 error rest API solve method, still now work. Keep showing ” Error: Sorry, you cannot list resources.”

I guess it should be some bugs for multi-sites mode. My other single site mode will work and can get order info from rest API

Should I uninstall the multi-sites mode? Could you please let me know how to uninstall multi-site mode and change back to single site?

I only have 1 sub-site in this multi-site code.

Hey @raymondlv,

In a multisite setup, permissions can be a bit more complex. Even if you are a super admin, you might not have the correct permissions on the sub-site to access the API.

I have tried to update the woocommerce and the 401 error rest API solve method, still now work. Keep showing ” Error: Sorry, you cannot list resources.”

I noticed that you are using HTTP, not HTTPS. The 401 error you are getting is because you are using basic auth even though your website is not secure (does not have https). To resolve this issue, either use OAuth 1.0 or install SSL on your site and send the request over https.

Additionally, ensure that the user whose keys you are using has “read” and “write” permissions on the specific sub-site.
Could you please let me know how to uninstall multi-site mode and change back to single site?

It’s a complex process and can potentially lead to data loss. I would recommend trying to resolve the permissions issue first before considering this step.
