• Hi

I just need some clarification on how the RELATED PRODUCTS work.

If I have a category called UMBRELLAS

and then I have subcategories for ALUMINIUM, TIMBER, HAND HELD,

Therefore under the UMBRELLAS – All products will show here from all products in ALL sub-categories

When we click on ALUMINIUM, we will see the relevant products for ALUMINIUM only which is normal.

IF I click on a product in the ALUMINUM for example called “blue-outdoor” to view the single product page product … you will see the RELATED PRODUCTS ….

My question is, does the products showing in here in the RELATED PRODUCTS ONLY show products related ONLY in the same ALUMINIUM sub category OR from the UMBRELLAS parent group as well which would mean to show ANY Product from the UMBRELLAS PARENT group which includes all of them or any of them?

As I thought it would and should show any products from within the UMBRELLAS parent grouping even though I have clicked on a product called “blue-outdoor” which belongs in the sub-category of ALUMINIUM.

If someone could clarify would be great.

    Thanks

    Kristin

    Hello @kristinubute,

Thank you for your inquiry about how related products are determined on WooCommerce product pages.

Related products in WooCommerce are pulled dynamically based on the current product’s categories and tags. This means that the related products section can display items from both the same sub-category (such as “Aluminum” in your example) and potentially from the broader parent category (“Umbrellas”) if those items share similar tags or are in the same parent category.

To provide further detail, WooCommerce will first look for products within the same sub-category. If not enough are found, it may fill the rest of the related products area with items from the same parent category. Additionally, tags can play a role in this selection process, as items with shared tags are considered related.

You can read more about about related products from our support guide here. You will also find customization from there as well.

I hope this helps. Please let us know if you have additional questions.
