Thank you for your question and especially for your offer of a donation in support of our fair trade work.

I want to make sure I understand what you mean by “convert IPTC keyword onto Woocommerce product tags“. The Woocommerce Product Tags are implemented as a WordPress taxonomy. MLA will let you extract the IPTC keywords and assign them to your Media Library items in the Product Tags taxonomy. I can give you specific instructions on how to create a mapping rule that does that.

However, the real question is how will you use that information? Adding the tags to the items does not do anything automatically that would link images to products, etc. If you can tell me more about your end goal I can be more specifically helpful.

For your information, here are some earlier support topics that you might find helpful:

Automatically assigning/syncing WooCommerce taxonomies to/with MLA

set the product category as alt and title tag for all images

As you can see there are many considerations for applications linking images to Woocommerce products. If I know more about your application I can give you the help you need. Thanks for your interest in MLA.

    David thanks a lot.

    I use keywords in Lightroom.
I upload the images to the media library.
I assign the image to a pruduct.

Now I wish that the product inherits the LR keyword as a product tag (or category maybe)

    Can this be achieved?

Thanks for expanding on your application requirements. You can use a combination of the MLA IPTC/EXIF mapping rules and one of the MLA example plugins to get what you want. The solution has two parts:

    1. Create and apply an IPTC/EXIF mapping rule to populate the Att. Tags for you images.
    2. Use the “WooCommerce Fixit” example plugin to copy the Att. Tags to WooCommerce Product Tags or Product Categories.

    The implement the first part:

    1. Go to the Settings/Media Library Assistant IPTC/EXIF tab.
    2. If you want to apply the rule to new items as they are uploaded (recommended), check the “Enable IPTC/EXIF Mapping when adding new media” and “Enable IPTC/EXIF Mapping when updating media metadata ” boxes.
    3. Scroll down to the “Taxonomy term mapping” section.
    4. Locate the “Att. Tags” rule entry.
    5. In the “IPTC Value” dropdown control select “2#025 keywords”.
    6. Leave the “EXIF/Template Value” text box blank.
    7. In the “Priority” dropdown, select “IPTC”.
    8. In the “Existing Text” dropdown, select “Replace”.
    9. Leave the Delimiter(s) text box blank.
    10. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click “Save Changes”.

Once you define the rule you can apply it to a single image, multiple images or all images:

    1. To map a single image, go to the Media/Assistant submenu and click the thumbnail of the image you want (or click the “Edit” rollover action) to get the Media/Edit Media screen. You can click the “Map IPTC/EXIF metadata” link to run your rules on this image, then scroll down and look through the taxonomy meta boxes to inspect the results.
    2. To map two or more images, go to the Media/Assistant submenu and click the checkbox next to the images you want. Then, select “Edit” from the “Bulk Actions” dropdown above the checkboxes and click “Apply” to open the Bulk Edit area. Click the “Map IPTC/EXIF metadata” button to run your rules on the selected images.
    3. To map all of your images, stay on the Settings/Media Library Assistant IPTC/EXIF tab and click the “Map All Attachments, Taxonomy Terms Now” button. This may take a while.

    To implement the second part:

Install the latest MLA Development Version dated 20161125, which contains a few relevant fixes to the example plugin. To get the Development Version, follow the instructions in this earlier topic:

Shortcode not working in (special) widget

Once the Development Version is installed, navigate to the Settings/Media library Assistant Documentation tab and click the “Example Plugins” button. Type “WooCommerce” in the text box and click “Search Plugins” to filter the table.

You are looking for “WooCommerce Fixit” plugin. Find that plugin and hover over the title in the left-most column. Click the “Install” rollover action, then go to the WordPress Plugins/Installed Plugins submenu and activate the new plugin as you would any other WordPress plugin.

The example plugin adds a “Woo Fixit” submenu item to the Tools menu. Go to the Tools/Woo Fixit submenu to see the available tools. In particular, look for the “Operations on Products, using the Product Image, Product Tags and Att. Tags” and “Operations on Products, using the Product Image, Product Categories and Att. Tags” tool sections. The tools in these sections let you copy terms from the Att. Tags taxonomy of the products’ “Product Image” to the corresponding Products Product Tag or Product Category terms.

The Product Tag tools copy Att. Tags terms without checking if they already exist as Product Tags. The Product Category tools will only copy an Att. Tag value if it already exists as a Product Category, using the Name (not the slug) to test for an exact match.

If you decide to use the tools, proceed with caution. These tools make permanent updates to your database. Make a backup before you use the tools so you can restore your old values if you don’t like the results. You can also use the “First Product” and “Last Product” boxes at the top of the screen to try the tools out on one or a few products.

I hope that gets you started on a solution for your application. If you have any problems or further questions regarding the above suggestions, post an update here and I will give you more specific help.
