Woocommerce product description not showing in shop

Have spent hours searching to try to resolve this, deactivated, reactivated plugins… no joy. I have various short descriptions of my products, none of which display in the shop. Only visible once you click further on a product.

I had understood that the text entered under ‘Short Description’ on a product, would display in the shop. This is not the case.

Did I understand this incorrectly? If so, is how can I do this?
