• Hey there, I’m used to using PayPal Standard to create buttons to cut/paste on sites. Of course, this sends the user through the PayPal shopping cart and allows payment by PayPal or credit card. Same holds true for the “Buy Now” buttons.

This is the first time that I’m using WooCommerce, much less a shopping cart for payment processing, and I’m setting up to use PayPal. I’m using the sandbox to test. When I click Place Order, and I go into PayPal, my expectation is to be given a choice to use PayPal to pay or use a credit card. However, I’m given the choice to use PayPal or to set up a PayPal account.

I also tried with my own PayPal account to take the process to this point, and I got the same result.

Is there a parameter somewhere that I should be setting that perhaps I haven’t? I did set up buyers and sellers in the PayPal sandbox for testing through there.

Or, worse, is the payment of credit cards via PayPal not supported in the “base” WooCommerce and I’ll need to get a premium extension?

Wow, any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I’ve spent a LOT of time today looking for the answer, and I’m just coming up empty handed.

    Thanks in advance!

I’ve thrown together a quick test site, bare bones, but gets the point across – test.thewptestsite.com

This is not controlled by WooCommerce but by Paypal. By default you should have both options after going to Paypal.

That was what I was expecting. And having not made any modifications on the PayPal side, well, that leaves me curious and confused.

    Thanks for your response.

You mentioned you used sandbox account…have you tried normal and see?

Yes – I also tried with my own PayPal account to take the process to this point, and I got the same result.

I swear, I was getting the same result last night and this morning off of a “live” PayPal account. Now, I am getting the credit card dropdown on the PayPal landing page when using my “live” account.

Good thing I have a lot of hair, because I was pulling it out in wads.

Thank you for your time. I think I’m good now… it appears that only paypal accounts can be tested through the sandbox rather than the test charge cards. And my main focus was traveling the whole circuit rather than how payment was made. It just threw me that I wasn’t seeing the same landing page that I expected.

    Onwards and upwards!

That is weird…Are you sure it is not there? Because sometimes Paypal keeps it a bit “hidden” if you know what I mean, it would be a really small link under a big button thus to hide it…They change this layout from time to time.

They do this because they would much rather people sign up to use Paypal rather than credit card…

Of course they want people to sign up.

For clarity, my testing has been solely through WooCommerce with both the sandbox paypal account and the live paypal account.

No paypal generated buttons were harmed during testing. Other than from other sites so I could see what actually displays from the paypal side when they want to identify the payment mechanism.

    Thanks for chiming in!

If I see any other anomolies, I’ll holler.

I have the same issue and called paypal and they state that it is the coding by woocommerce paypal. all paypal accounts come with the option to pay for item with either a paypal account or credit card and woo has to fix!
