    Hi,

I have been using for years Woocommerce Paypal Checkout Gateway without complaints, it works fine.

Now a couple of days ago it was pushed the plugin Woocommerce Paypal Payments.

What’s the purpose of the new plugin? Do I need to keep both activated? Are the two plugins complementary or one replaces the other or… what shall I do?

    Thank you for clarifying

    Hi @fabuportal

PayPal Payments is the newest, official PayPal plugin and is in active development, while some older PayPal gateways are slowly being retired.
WooCommerce and PayPal are managing all marketing aspects while Inpsyde is currently developing and supporting the plugin.
There were a lot of different PayPal plugins with similar features and the long-term goal is to minimize the number of plugins to ideally only one that suits all needs.

We would advise making sure you have a recent backup available in case anything goes wrong with the update and perform the update PayPal Payments. Also, we would advise using the installation Wizard of PayPal Payments since we have heard some people are having issues when using the manual installation.

In case you run into any problems, we will be here to help you get it resolved.

    Kind regards,
    Joost

    Thank you Joost.

Based on your answer I will immediately deactivate the new plugin Woocommerce Paypal Payments.

I cannot risk any problem before my next launch.

As long as Woocommerce Paypal Checkout Gateway still works, I will keep it as my only active plugin to avoid conflicts.

Later when Woocommerce Paypal Payments becomes more stable and becomes the only official Woocommerce-Paypal plugin, and you officially phase out the old Woocommerce Paypal Checkout Gateway, only then I will switch.

I have had too many bad experiences with plugins (I am not particularly referring to Woocommerce) and payments are too sensitive to run any risk if this plugin is so new.

    Thank you

    @joostvandevijver,

the switchover to the new plugin is quite confusing:

    1) we have the PayPal Checkout plugin active – when I installed and activated the new plugin in a test env – the existing PayPal Checkout plugin is still active. Are these two plugins meant to run side-by-side – can they run side-by-side?
    2) When configuring the new PayPal plugin via the wizard – it has you login to PayPal and goes through a process that looks as if it’s setting up a new account of some sort? Wasn’t quite sure, and didn’t want to mess around with PayPal and screw up the current configuration.

Is there perhaps a document someplace that goes, in detail, the steps to switchover to the new plugin from PayPal checkout?

    Thanks!
    Han

    Hello @hantunca

Let me answer these questions for you:
    1) No, it can actually cause issues if they run next to each other. The best is to at least deactivate the Checkout plugin.
    2) There is a document available from PayPal for this upgrade: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/woocommerce-paypal-payments/paypal-payments-upgrade-guide/
Please check this and see if it has sufficient details for you to perform the upgrade. If there is anything missing, please let us know and we will try to answer those as well.

    Kind regards,
    Joost
