Woocommerce Orders Disappearing every few weeks

    We have this happen occasionally and we’re not sure what is causing it. Seemingly at random, all orders within Woocommerce will disappear. I’ve checked the database and there doesn’t seem to be any record of them either. It’s as if they were put in the trash and then the trash was emptied.

    We haven’t been able to find the issue via disabling plugins/changing themes since we aren’t sure when the deletion is happening or what singular event is causing it. Otherwise, we’d have to disable essential functionality for the site, and then wait for weeks to see if order information is deleted.

    We’ve got the plugins down to the essentials for the site to function, and have disabled auto-update, everything we can think to do that might be causing the issue while we’re away, but it still continues to happen seemingly at random. It looks like it seems to strike every few weeks or so.

    The client is having trouble getting together a proper report for taxes, without just having to comb through all emails for the past year one-by-one. Is there anything else we could be trying to do here? We’ll probably end up having to write some kind of script to convert the email notifications into a format that can be re-added to Woocommerce in order to restore what was lost, but we’re more concerned with stopping the issue going forward.

    That is a really unexpected situation indeed. There are a few activity log plugins for WordPress. You might try installing one of those and see if it can catch these orders being removed in the act.

    You might also enable any logging that the web host has available for the database. You might be able to catch what’s triggering this there too.

    One more thing, you could install the WP Crontrol plugin. It’ll add a new section at Tools > Cron Events where you can see any scheduled tasks on the site. See if any of these are related.
