A few days ago I noticed that a number of my sites (three to be specific) have missing Woocommerce menus on the dashboard. All functions relating to the plugin work (shopping cart and order process), but the plugin is actually missing.

Now, before posting here I did several things and also followed older “resolved” threads but all to no avail. For the sake of those who can help, these are the steps I followed before.

#1: Cleared my browser cache and the like – nothing

#2: Followed the “health check” troubleshooting guide and disabled/enabled each plugin to see if there is conflict – but the plugin does not show anyways so no progress.

#3. Tried reinstalling but instead getting a “failed to install” error. Also tried uploading and also getting the same error once again.

#4: Followed threads with code for error (lines 64, 71 and 74 with actual code for php code in the plugin.php text files. No change.

Perhaps there may be something I am missing especially on #4 which someone could help with. I am using Chrome as my browser, and with the latest WordPress update 6.2 and trying to install latest Woocommerce (though that’s not working)

    Please help!

  • Hi @revwalter,

Are you logged in as an administrator?

Please share the following information for further investigation:

    1. System Status: You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”. Once you’ve done that, paste it here in your response.
    2. Fatal Error Log: A copy of any fatal error log found under WooCommerce > System Status > Logs (if available).

System status – As I had mentioned earlier, I am not seeing Woocommerce plugin, so not able to generate the report you speak of. I am however able to access file manager on my host platform. Is there a path you can share which I can follow perhaps to access the back end?

    Hi @revwalter

    Thanks for reaching out!

I understand that the WooCommerce menu is missing on your WordPress dashboard, correct?

As a first step, can you please confirm if WooCommerce is listed under Plugins > Installed Plugins > Active?

2: Followed the “health check” troubleshooting guide and disabled/enabled each plugin to see if there is conflict – but the plugin does not show anyways so no progress.

Can you please try once again to switch to the default Storefront theme and only WooCommerce plugin is enabled and see if this works?

    3. Tried reinstalling but instead getting a “failed to install” error. Also tried uploading and also getting the same error once again.

To better picture what you are referring to here, can you please share with us a clear screenshot of what you see on your end so that we could address you more effectively?

If you don’t already have a screenshot service installed, you can try https://snipboard.io. You can share the direct link to the image as a response to this topic.

Meanwhile, can you please try to reinstall WooCommerce by following the steps on this support documentation about Installing and Uninstalling WooCommerce and see if this resolves the issue here?

    (@revwalter)

Step 1 – There is no menu item for woocommerce at all. See below

Step 2 – No woocommerce plugin

Step 3 – When I try to reinstall the woocommerce plugin, this error appears as shown below

And when I try to upload the woocommerce plugin directly, this error appears instead

Meanwhile, can you please try to reinstall WooCommerce by following the steps on this support documentation about Installing and Uninstalling WooCommerce and see if this resolves the issue here

Tried this, no progress because the said item states that woocommerce is already installed! (??) As for the total uninstall that includes the data – wouldn’t want that as it took hours plus clients and data to be where we are now!

    Help!

    Hi @revwalter ,

Tried this, no progress because the said item states that woocommerce is already installed! (??)

It’s possible that either of the following occurred:

    1. A previous attempt to delete the plugin didn’t succeed, and it left the plugin folder behind, OR
    2. A previous installation attempt was interrupted and left an empty destination folder.

In either case, if there is a folder with the same name as the plugin you are trying to install, this folder may stop WordPress from completing the installation.

To check, can you access your site via FTP or cPanel and see if the WooCommerce folder still exists within ?/wp-content/plugins/.

If so, you can delete this and then download a fresh copy of WooCommerce here, and try upload this to you site.

I’d like to add?that deleting the WooCommerce folder this way will not affect your WooCommerce data – all orders, customer data, etc will still be there once WooCommerce has been reinstalled.

In order to fully remove this data, it would require modifying your site’s wp-config.php?file, which we do not recommend you do.

Let us know how this goes!
