Woocommerce makes adding a new plugin a 503

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand that you are met with a 503 error when adding a new plugin to your site, however this is resolved when WooCommerce is deactivated, is this correct?

Does this occur when adding any plugin, or only for a specific plugin? Also, are you experiencing this issue when uploading a plugin, or clicking to “install” a plugin?

This particular server error response code indicates that the server is not ready to handle the request.

Common causes are a server that is down for maintenance or that is overloaded. It can also be due to a conflict either from the theme or another plugin causing memory exhaustion or sending too many PHP requests which cause the overload.

Please disable all plugins, except WooCommerce and try the process again. If this persists, change your theme to a default one, such as Storefront, whilst keeping all plugins deactivated except WooCommerce, and try again.

If this makes no difference, please share a copy of your site’s System Status with us. You can find it via WooCommerce → Status. Select Get system report” and then Copy for Support.

Additionally, please share a copy of the error message as you see it.

Hi I switched to the standard twenty twenty three theme, disabled all plugins except woocommerce and the error I get is this one:

Service Unavailable

The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.

This only happens if woocommerce is enable and it happens when I click on the black admin side menu Plugins >> add new, so before I see a list of plugins to install.

Hello @calfree,

I came across a similar report that suggests the issue could be related to exceeding the server’s CPU and memory resources. Since you are using a local host environment, it may not be possible to work around this issue. However, you could try increasing the resources allocated to the WordPress app.

Alternatively, you can consider using another WordPress localhost development tool, for example, localwp.

I am using localwp but I have deleted the site and started over and it seems to be working now, so no worries. Thanks for the help
