Woocommerce layered navigation problems

I was wondering if anyone had used woocommerce layered navigation as I am having some quite big problems with it. I have set product attributes and set the settings in the widget area of the backend but absolutely nothing shows on the site other than some white space above my product thumbnails which isnt even where the widget should appear! Has anyone had a similar problem or does anyone know how to solve this?
