woocommerce latest version is compatible or not?

    hi, I want to know that latest version of woocommerce is compatible or not?
    there is a message showing in woocommerce plugin update section
    1) “4.0 is a major update. Make a full site backup, update your theme and extensions,”
    Why I need to update the theme?

    2)If i did not update the theme, can I update the woocommerce plugin or not?
    Please guide me about this thing?

    The update to WooCommerce 4.0 involves some changes to the way the core functionality of the plugin works. We recommend making a full backup, including the database, in case there are any update issues and you need to roll back to the last known working version of the site. We don’t expect this to be needed but with this kind of update, it is better to be safe than sorry.

    You can likely update WooCommerce without updating your theme but if there is code in the older theme code that conflicts with the new version of WooCommerce you may be able to resolve it with an update to the theme. I recommend updating all of the plugins and themes installed to ensure the most compatible code is being used.
