WooCommerce emails not sending on new orders, works with older orders

I have just realized that customer emails are not sending on new orders – not automatically or manually. When trouble shooting I have found that older orders will send out emails if I for example change an order from pending to completed, but when trying the same thing for newer orders it does not generate a customer email. Not sure when this error first began but seems within the last several months.
