    Hi!

Im just starting to develop my page, its in Norweigan. I changed the language in wordpress and updated translation files. The supportguides say that the woocommerce pages should be translated automatically (to norsk (Bokm?l), but it leaves some words out on the Checkout Page: like First Name, Last Name, Company Name, Phone, E-mail and a larger text about purchase and privacy policy. Why is this? The language package should be 100% stable.. I even tried to install TranslatePress to have them changed but doesnt work, the translation is saved in TranslatePress but doesnt show up on the page.. Ive disable cache plugins.. Everything updated.. Disbaled dynamic content.. Its starting to feel abit ridiculous, when its suppose to traduce everything but leaves some words out, doesnt look too good. Am I missing something? Id be very grateful for your help!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hello @helphanna,

We’re sorry to hear about the missing translation issue you’re experiencing on your checkout page.

Please note that WooCommerce itself doesn’t handle translations; the WordPress community manages them. You can contribute to translations or add your own through the translate.www.remarpro.com platform.

However, you can use a plugin like Loco Translate to translate these strings in your WooCommerce plugin for the specific texts you mentioned. Further information on translating WooCommerce can be found here: https://woocommerce.com/document/woocommerce-localization/

Please don’t hesitate to ask if you need further assistance with this. We’re here to help!

    Thanks!

    Hi Everyone!

Thank you both for your answers! Do you recommend to do all translations with Loco Translate and stop using TranslatePress all together? I also use Elementor Pro and they specifically recommended not using Loco Translate.. @rajeshml I suspect what the issue is. I found a text on the link you provided https://woocommerce.com/document/woocommerce-localization/

that describes the same problem, and the cause being choosing the “wrong” default language when installing the woocommerce plugin. Im pretty sure I chose english. Tried to reinstall it but seems my settings are still there. I could change the privacy policy text succesfully following the guide under FAQ, but I now have to change all the other ones, and I cant find those under woocommerce – settings.. How do I change these if this is the problem? This would be an issue for you guys I suppose. I suspect that if I cant change it with TranslatePress I wont be able to translate it with Loco Translate either, but could be wrong.. Thanks again, youre my angels!

    Hi @helphanna

While WooCommerce doesn’t handle translations directly, it does support the use of various translation plugins. When it comes to translations, the easiest solution would be to translate the strings directly on your site using the Loco Translate or Say What? plugin.

that describes the same problem, and the cause being choosing the “wrong” default language when installing the woocommerce plugin. Im pretty sure I chose english. Tried to reinstall it but seems my settings are still there.

Reinstalling WooCommerce usually retains the same settings, which is likely why you’re still experiencing the problem.

However, you could try editing the language files directly, although this is a more advanced option and should be done cautiously. To do this, you can use the Translation Generator WP plugin to generate and upload translation files to your site. You can also use a Poedit Translation Editor.

I hope this helps! Please let us know how it goes or if you need further assistance.

@shameemreza Thanks so much! I have to look into Loco Translate if I dont find another solution. Trying to avoid too many plugins in risk of complicated future updates.. (Also I got this message from Elementor, the builder Im using: “I want to let you know that some strings are hard-coded, and Loco Translate cannot handle them properly. This is generally not something we can affect from our side…” Sooo that doesnt sound good..) Just one question: I am just starting my site (more or less) so I could just start over, do you think that would fix the problem, if I start with setting default language norweigan in wordpress from the start? Thanks ??

    Hi @helphanna

Yes, starting over with the Norwegian language set as the default could potentially solve your issue. WooCommerce will use the language set in your WordPress settings, so if you set Norwegian from the start, it should apply throughout your WooCommerce setup.

To save time, you can set up a staging site and check whether it resolves or not: https://woocommerce.com/posts/what-is-staging-site-wordpress-how-to-set-one-up/

However, please note that while this might solve the issue with WooCommerce, it might not necessarily solve any translation issues with other plugins or themes you’re using. Some strings might still be hard-coded in English, as you’ve noted with Elementor.

I hope this helps. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any other questions or concerns. Good luck with your site!
