    Hello,

    hope you’re all fine!
I have a issue with the csv import in woocommerce.
When I want to import a csv file there is always this error message:
The file is empty or uses an encoding other than UTF-8. Please try again with a new file.
Eventough when i import the sample file of woocommerce.

I am sure the encoding is UTF-8 and the file is not empty, i checked it in the Atom editor.

    Please help!

    Kind regards,
    Felix

  • Hello there,

    That’s odd,

    * Have you tried the file only with 1 product just to make sure it will go through without errors?

    * Have you tried editing/opening the file using another editor? For example an online suite editor?

    Does that make a difference?

    Hey Igor,

thank you for your prompt reply!

Yes, I tried to open the csv with another editor, tried different separators (, and ;), tried to download the sample csv from woocommerce and does not open it, instead imported it instantly and tried my own csv.

So, i really does not know any other ways and it is important, since our customers are waiting for the solution.

    Hello,

Can you please provide a copy or URL of the file (you can share it with 1-2 products) so that we can check?

    Thanks.

    Hi there,

May I ask what happens if you replace the special (Non-English) characters in the file?

    Does that make a difference?

unfortunately it does not make any difference either, if I change all german characters the same error message responds.

I tried the csv file on a different website of me, there it works properly – is it possible that another plugin cause this issue, we are working with WCFM, crocoblock, essential addons which are directly connected to woocommerce.

    Hi @felixh3r

In that case, it seems to be caused by a conflict with your theme or with another plugin.
    ?
The best way to determine this is to:

    • Temporarily switch your theme to Storefront
    • Disable all plugins except for WooCommerce
    • Import the CSV

If you’re not seeing the same problem after completing the conflict test, then you’ll be confirmed that the problem was with the plugins and/or theme you deactivated. To figure out which plugin is causing the problem, reactivate your other plugins one by one, testing after each, until you find the one causing conflict. You can find a more detailed explanation on how to do a conflict test here.

You can create a staging site for testing with the WP Staging plugin, in case your hosting provider doesn’t offer an option already.

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m marking this thread as resolved – we’ll be here if and/or when you are ready to continue.
