Woocommerce checkout page

I am creating a website and using woo commerce.

I made a checkout page which works perfectly when there is something in the cart.. but if there is nothing in the cart and you click it on the main menu it’s just a blank page and with no links to return back to the website.

I’d like to add text or something that says “nothing in cart” or “cart empty” with my navigation menu still available.

Right now I’m using the code [woocommerce_checkout] which again works only if something is in the cart. Do I have to add something else?
