• Hi, Can anyone tell me if it is possible to merge a bunch of product categories? I have for example this:

    Cherry Chocolates
    Dark Chocolates
    Milk Chocolates
    Rum Truffles
    Toffee Chocolate

I want all of the to be combines to just CHOCOLATE as a parent, but I have already uploaded them via a large XML file. I have about 200 different categories and don’t wanna do them all by hand so to speak. Thanks!

  • thats what i like to now as well

Maybe consider a tool like WP All Import where you can translate categories during import. To merge existing categories you can do so via the categories screen the same way you merge post categories in WordPress.

I don’t believe that’s accurate. In Post categories, when you delete a category, it asks you what you’d like to do with the posts in that category – e.g. move to another.

In Woocommerce > Products > Categories – if you delete a category it does not ask you what you want to do with the existing posts (products) in that category, it simply removes the cateogry and the products are then uncategorized.

Yes so you merge it instead of deleting it right? Using bulk actions? And as a result those products are then inherited by the product category you merged into? I am certain I did this to like 100 product categories just this week.
