This just happened today. Website was giving a 500 error, so I deactivated all of the plugins and then activated them one by one. The only one that caused the problem was the Woocommerce plugin. Next I deactivated all the plugins and then activated the WC plugin only and again had the same issue – broke the website. Then for good measure I changed the theme and tried the WC plugin only again and still had the same issue. Did an upgrade on the WordPress to 5.9, did not fix the issue. The only way I could get the website to work was by renaming the WC plugin otherwise I would get a 500 page error. Please advise how to fix this.

    Hi @vtorres7332 ??

Thanks for reporting this matter to us.

In order for us to get a better idea regarding this, could you please share with us the error message which is given when the error 500 is triggered?

Your Server Error logs should have it logged, but you could also enable WP Debug temporarily on your site to see it too, as explained here: https://woocommerce.com/document/woocommerce-product-search/api/debugging/

It would also be great if you could go to Tools > Site Health > Info > Copy site info to clipboard, and paste that report with us here.

Once we have that, we should be able to advise you further ??

Great question! I was also told today by a Bluehost tech support person that WooCommerce was causing errors on my website which also just updated to WordPress 5.9.

Unfortunately the “help” I’ve received so far has only made things worse and my site has now been down for 6 hours.

    Hi @wausaumama ??

I can understand how frustrating this must be. I have tested WooCommerce 6.1.1 and WordPress 5.9 but did not notice any issues.

If you’re able to share the error message with us, it would be really helpful. This can be found in the Server Error Logs or if WP Debug is enabled.

    Thanks!

Based on looking at other responses this happening with other websites as well. What is going on? This is not like Woocommerce, have never had issues like this with your plugin.

    Hi @vtorres7332

I would give you the error log when debugging but the only I can do it is if I change the folder name for woocommerce otherwise the website will not come up (breaks).

Could you enable WordPress debug logging on your site. Here is a good guide on how to do this: https://help.dreamhost.com/hc/en-us/articles/360029327771-Enabling-the-WordPress-Debug-log

Once you’ve enabled debug logging, please try to install WooCommerce. This should trigger the error again and hopefully an error will be logged in the wp-content/debug.log file.

    Thread Starter vtorres7332

    (@vtorres7332)

In a perfect world that would work. Debugging is set at True, refreshed the browser, changed the Woocommerce folder name back to what it should be, cleared the site Cache, Actived Woocommerce… then this is what I got – same as before:

    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator at [email protected] to inform them of the time this error occurred, and the actions you performed just before this error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

    —————————-

The only way I could be bring the site back up was by changing the Woocommerce folder name, just as before.

    @vtorres7332

We’re sorry to hear about this.

Using this guide, enable debugging so we can have more technical source/details of the error

    Thread Starter vtorres7332

    (@vtorres7332)

Debugging is set on True for https://swsprojects.com/client/kalpatree/ . Checked everything else, changed the htacess made no difference. WC keeps breaking the site, have it renamed for now.

    Hello @vtorres7332

Thank your additional feedback. I noticed that your site’s database is running on 10.3.32-MariaDB. We recommend that the database versions be –

MySQL version 5.6 or greater OR MariaDB version 10.1 or greater

Please would you reach out to your host to update your database versions to match our requirements. I also recommend that you add a SSL certificate to your site.

We’ve not heard back from you in a while, so I’m marking this thread as resolved. If you have further questions, please feel free to open a new topic.
