WooCommerce blocks checkout fields – how to modify?

Can anyone direct me to documentation regarding modifications to the checkout fields with the blocks framework? I simply want to change the phone field from optional to required and perhaps add a message field. The complication may be with the Avada theme in use.
The old short code works, but producer a bit clunkier results that need a lot of styles adjustment to not look awful. Many thanks for your help.

change the phone field from optional to required
To make the phone field require, open the checkout page in the editor. Then, click on the phone field. From the block settings, you can easily make the phone field required.
add a message field
Just like you would on a page, you can easily insert a text block to add a message. Simply search, insert, and voila, you’re done!
