Woocommerce adding noindex tag

Can you please share the URL of your site as well as where should we look for this noindex tag so that we can provide you with more details?

Great troubleshooting steps there! Can you also try switching the theme to Storefront and see if the tag is still there?

I changed the theme to Storefront and the noindex tag was still there (I have changed it back)

ALso, its only the home page – all the other pages do not have the tag

Error Log: Share a copy of any fatal error logs:
* Go to WooCommerce → Status → Logs
* Choose a log from the drop-down labeled fatal-errors.log
* Click View

There is no log there with that name.

Thank you for sharing your system status report.

Just a little recap of what you’ve done but the problem persists.

You have deactivated all plugins (except WooCommerce), changed the theme to Storefront, and you have discouraged search engines from indexing. “noindex” is still showing on your shop page which is also the website homepage.

WooCommerce adds the “noindex” tag on the pages that are assigned to be the cart, checkout, and account pages. It doesn’t add the “noindex” tag to other pages like the shop page and it’s confirmed after inspecting my test site.

Normally the “noindex” tag is added by SEO plugins like this one you’ve installed:

You disabled this plugin but the “noindex” tag is still there. Can you please get in touch with the plugin developers and check if they have a solution for you?

I have already been in touch with WPMU and they checked it and said its not their plugin in that is the issue.

Sadly, I tried that snippet in both the child and parent theme and neither worked.

Out of frustration I went through disabled all the plugins again one by one and it was only disabling woocommerce that made it go away.

I also do clear the cache after every change, so its not that.

Any other ideas?

(I might try later creating a new home page and replace that with the current one and hope that the noindex does not show up in the new page! )

To clarify, you have to disable all plugins at once and leave only WooCommerce core enabled with the default Storefront theme.

The cache should also be flushed at the server as it seems you have it enabled. Your host will surely be able to assist with that.

If nothing helps, even after changing the homepage, you might want to get help from a web developer to create a custom solution to remove the “noindex” tag. If you would like to investigate that possibility further, you could reach out to some of the official WooCommerce development partners via this link – https://woocommerce.com/customizations/.

Yes, with storefront theme and ALL plugins except woocommerce deactivated still get the noindex …. totally baffles me.

Will look into the caching issues with the server.
