• I’d like to install my WordPress to my D drive (C drive is JAMMED), but the WPI doesn’t seem to offer the option. I’ve downloaded and installed everything except WordPress at this point. Any advice how to get this thing running? Windows 7 box, IIS functional, MySQL seems to be OK. Gracias!

  • Sounds like you need to map a folder on your DL drive into your local web server. This a server issue – not a WordPress one.

Thanks for your thoughts, esmi, but so far I’m not seeing the issue as a server problem. When I run the WP web installer, it tries to find MySQL on my C drive — but it’s on the D drive. I must presume that if it were on the C drive I’d be fine.

My PC is perfectly capable of running as a localhost server. So, no server problems. (Yet, anyway!)

I’ve got the WP files downloaded and extracted onto my D drive, and see an “install.sql” file there. I suspect if I could call that via MySQL, the install might start up… Any SQL gurus out there?

It sure seems like a server/computer configuration issue to me as well. Silly things like environment variables, and automated installers looking for the default installation path for program files. Stuff like that.

So you think it’s not the WordPress web platform installer (https://www.microsoft.com/web/gallery/wordpress.aspx) that attempts to find MySQL on the C drive?

I run the Web Platform Installer 3.0, enter application info, and hit install, then get the error, “The utility to get the database script could not be found at ‘C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1\bin\mysqldump.exe’.”

So you’re suggesting I map the MySQL Server 5.1 folder to the D drive?

By default Web Platform Installer checks mysqldump.exe file in default location. If MySQL is install in different location, you may need to edit some registry settings. I found one thread on msdn forum to change the path for mysqldump.exe. I will post the link once I get it. This is Web PI issue rather than WordPress.

    Many thanks, Kailash!

I just posted my question on the IIS forum for the WPI. Meantime, I’m digging around elsewhere. I’m leery of the registry changes I see being recommended… ??

Probably the following thread will help you:
