Does this work on wordpress sites installed on IIS servers that are using Windows Authentication.

I seem to still be running into the same problem even when I put in my credentials.

Yes this plugin works on any setup that can run WordPress. I.e., WordPress itself is the only requirement. At least, that is how it should work, things may be different under the hood for different servers. If you let me know the syntax required for IIS or whatever I would be glad to take a look and let you know one way or another.

    Hmmm…

I read the article on your site about wordpress cron not working and found your plugin that way because I have a Windows Auth setup and am having issues with cron not working. I also get an error in site health that the site could not complete a loopback (same issue 401 / authorization).

So I thought this would be the solution, but it’s like my server won’t accept the credentials (any credentials, I’ve tried multiple usernames and password, all of which can sign into the site).

For whatever reason, when it goes to do the loopback, it just won’t accept it. Can you think of anything that might be the cause of this? Just wondering if I’m barking up the wrong tree.

I don’t doubt the plugin works, I’m just wondering if there is something I’m missing. (some setting that needs to be tweaked).

Yeah not sure, I don’t use any Microsoft stuff. Like I said, it may be a syntax issue with the login credentials. If you can let me know what syntax IIS or whatever is expecting, I will be able to investigate and let you know if compatible or not.

Oh sorry, didn’t see that request
In theory straight username / password should work
However, it may be that it needs the username to be formatted like this

    domain\username

I’ve tried putting that into the username field, but no dice, unless the plugin isn’t expecting that.

Again, it may just be something else I’m missing, but thank you for responding!

Yeah that would explain it. Assuming you are entering the correct username/password, it must be that the syntax is just different for IIS. One test would be to try entering the username and password directly into the Auth prompt (i.e., without using WordPress) and see if it works. Because if that doesn’t work, trying to do it via the plugin won’t work either.

If by entering it in the auth prompt you mean the window that pops up when you try to enter the site, then yes it works there. In fact I don’t need to enter it as domain\user in that box, just username and password work.

However, I have noticed that when site health tries to do a loopback check, it presents the box for authentication again (because wordpress needs to authenticate for loopback) and it fails every single time I put it in. So maybe that’s why the plugin isn’t working. I thought maybe using the plugin would fix this, but apparently there is a deeper issue that is causing failure.

Yeah sounds like a IIS specific issue then. If you or anyone has any further clues or related infos, please feel free to share them here. Hopefully at some point the mystery will be solved.
