• Hi guys,

    Ok, so I know as the title screams, the best advice is to have as little amount of plugins running as possible – got it! ??

    The issue is, we’re running a fairly large website (1000+ pages) that is doubling up as an intranet, so there are a number of different plugins that are essential for us to have it running properly. Some of these are;

    Gravity Forms
    Woo-Commerce
    Buddypress
    BBPress
    RtMedia
    Paid Memberships Pro

    And a couple of others. I understand alot of work on site speed is done through good optimisation and caching, but what I’m wondering is;

    Will running my site from a VPS allow much faster page loading times for a site that is plugin heavy? I understand there are some variables, but I’m just wondering if a VPS with 2 CPU & 4 GB RAM would likely yield us a better performance compared with our currently (very good) shared hosting?

    Thanks in advance for your responses! ??

  • Short answer is yes. I switched to a VPS at Dreamhost last year from a shared server with a big improvement. I have a dozen plugins live including a caching plugin which was key and big traffic… cost is around $30 to 40 per month depending on seasonality…
