Many people are advising to delete not-used wordpress themes for security risk. I am using a premium wordpress theme but not deleted the default wordpress themes: Twenty Nineteen, Twenty Twenty, Twenty Twenty-One and Twenty Twenty-Two. I guess these are very secure themes & so no need to delete.

Am I wrong? Should I delete them as they are not being used & may cause some security/resource relate issues?

  • Hello @silumant

Security is the main reason you should remove inactive themes and inactive plugins. From a security standpoint, a malicious individual might discover an exploit that leverages those unused themes and plugins.

In addition to the security aspect, removing inactive plugins and themes help in a host of other ancillary areas: reducing complexity and confusion when other people work on your site, reduction in the size of your backups, and perhaps even a nominal performance improvement.

Any small improvement in website performance can and will help with visitor satisfaction. This means it is worth the time to do what you can to improve website performance. Deleting these inactive themes and plugins is a quick and easy way to assist in these efforts.

    Thanks

Leave at least one of the twenty* themes as a fallback in case your current theme blows up.
