Hi, i’m, as others, trying to create an fse theme in wp5.9. I like it, but i wanted, in some cases, take more control over the theme, and use a “classic theme” just for skin (header, footer, sidebar) and leave the content free usage for the users, either native gutenberg blocks, either specifics plugin(s) blocks.
So my question is, will the use of and fse theme be mandatory in future (mean years) versions of wordpress?

    Thank you in advance.

no, but you wont get FSE with not-compatible theme, only the old good classic features you have already.

Thank you for the answer YUI ( @fierevere ).

Then I must assume that in at least two years or more, a “classic theme” (with php) will work without any problem.

My concern is because I have to start a new project right now and be able to make sure that in two or three years it will still work with the corresponding updates of the core and plugins.

    Thank you!!

Yes, this is a good approximation.
