Looking at my WP files on the server, i see that a backup htaccess has the AIO WP Security code in, but the current htaccess doesn’t.

At one point I set a hotlinking restriction via the host control panel, and it may have displaced the AIO version. Does the plugin read its own htaccess to confirm settings or would it tell me all is well when in fact the htaccess it originally created has been replaced?

    Thanks

Hi, did you create a htaccess backup? If you did all you have to do is go to Settings -> .htaccess File and click on restore .htaccess file.

Let me know if the above helps you.

Yes, but I’m most interested in whether or not the AIO plugin notices when the htaccess file is changed losing the plugin’s version of htaccess. Are the plugin’s settings invalidated and will it notice?

The change seems to have been created by a setting in my host’s control panel. I’m concerned I may have had a false sense of security from the AIO plugin afterwards.

    Hi @tober1,

No, the plugin has no such functionality.

When you re-save any of the plugin settings/features that are implemented via .htaccess directives, entire AIOWPSF-generated content of .htaccess file is restored (ie. not only that particular feature you just saved). But the plugin won’t notice that the .htaccess file has changed and plugin-generated content has been lost as result.

Thanks, that explains it. I’ll resave the plugin settings and add the host’s code to that.

It might be good to warn users somewhere that selecting options on your host might overwrite the plugin settings.

    thanks for your help.

    Your welcome!

Btw. it does seem plain wrong to me that your host updates .htaccess file in a way that does not preserve its original contents. WordPress puts some directives in .htaccess too if you have nice permalinks enabled…
