I have been running Woocommerce for some months now on my site. I logged in today to my admin page to discover that the plugin has unexpectedly disappeared from the WP config. Some additional add-on plugins are still there (Woocommerce Payments 3.6.0, Woocommerce PDF Invoices 2.8.8).

The last email notification I had was that Woocommerce had been updated from 6.0.0 to 6.1.0 on 11 Jan. Sometime between then and today I assume the problem must have occurred.

The program files appear to be still there, and as far as can be identified the WP system is not corrupted (checksums OK) or has malware. I can’t tell if the database associated with Woocommerce contains all the data that had been entered as that’s beyond my technical ability.

My ISP has suggested deleting the files in wp-content/plugins/woocommerce and then re-installing the Woocommerce plugin as a solution.

If I do this, will this delete all the existing Woocommerce database entries for products, sales, customers etc?

is there an alternative solution to restoring the plugin?

    Hello @emdublu

    Thanks for your message!

That’s quite odd, have you checked with your web hosting company to know if they have any logs of files being deleted? This is not expected behavior on a WooCommerce installation.

You may also check with them for the latest backup: Site and DataBase.

That would be the best course of action here.

The information should not be deleted or overriden, however it is best to have a backup of both your site files and DataBase in case you need to upload it.

If the file has completely disappeared, there is no other option.

Check first with your host to know any backup options before attempting to reinstall.

If that does not work or you get an error message, please let us know.

I still have no idea why the plugin “disappeared” and when. I agree it is unexpected behaviour!

After taking local backups on my PC of both WP installation and the database, I renamed the existing woocommerce directory in /plugins, then re-installed the plugin (now V6.1.1) from scratch.

Delighted to find that the shop function and all my data had come back unscathed. Will monitor this for a few days to ensure all is well.

Many thanks for your speedy help

    Hello @emdublu

Thanks for getting back to us!

I would check with your web hosting company for more details or a backtrace of any changes made to the site, including directory/folder deletions.

Unfortunately, on our end we do not keep record of those changes.

Awesome! Glad to know this worked to get the data back.

I will mark this thread as resolved for now.
