Will not allow me to activate

  • So, I downloaded and installed this plugin in hope that it would do its job.
    For some reason it will not allow to activate. I installed it correctly and did do the ‘activate’, yet when I looking in the plugin directory it was still not activated. click on it again, nothing happens. What can I do to fix this problem. Its a really nice plugin and I would love to publish it on my site.

    I found an error message for the behavior. Since I am a greeny with WP, I don’t know what this error code means. Could you help?

    Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_CONSTANT_ENCAPSED_STRING or ‘(‘ in /home/content/a/p/o/apos9849/html/wp-content/plugins/mailchimp-subscriber-chiclet/mailchimp-subscriber-chiclet.php on line 20

    I had the exact same error. It turned out to be a problem with the PHP interpreter. My web host allows me to select PHP version and I found that I was still running version 5.2. Switching to 5.3 or above did the trick!
