Hi – WP 5.0, just downloaded the plugin – Version 4.0.1 – so I have the current version. I did notice the repo says “updated yesterday” – uh oh.

Installed, no errors; clicked the activate and everything seems to happen normally including a message at the top of the plugins page that says “Plugin activated.” However, down the list, that plugin is not ‘blue-ed out” and under that it still says ACTIVATE.

    Tried deleting and reinstalling…no change.

I purged page cache – no joy on that. No other sign that it actually activated. Really wanted to use this…

    Thanks!

@citeweb please don’t assume a lack of response means anything other than a lack of time. Your problem is very different from the original poster, and I need to try the setup with WP Staging to see if it’s causing any effect. I will do this, and your issue will be resolved, but I need a little patience.

My apologies…having a stressful day. I very much appreciate your efforts and look forward to what you come back with.

Again, very sorry for my response.

I’m still experimenting to be sure but I think I have my problem fixed. My hosting company theorized it was a database cache issue (I assume they had some reason to think that but they didn’t share). As it turns out, if I PURGE DATABASE CACHE right after activating this or any other plugin, then I get the correct outcome.

With that in hand, Redirection p/i is now happily re-routing some retired pages to an appropriate place.

@citeweb Your issue and mine now appear to be very different – I’m going to mark this thread RESOLVED and suggest you start your own thread.

    Thanks!

@michael-king-1 ah yes, I was debugging the exact same thing with someone the other day, and it turned out to be a database cache on Dreamhost, fixed in the same way.

@citeweb I tried WP Staging and couldn’t trigger any problems. Would it be possible to get a login to one of your staging sites with the problem? It might speed things up a bit. If so I can be contacted at https://redirection.me/contact/

Noting that citeweb’s problem seemed to be caused by some caching setup and was solved by following https://webcusp.com/fixed-no-update-required-wordpress-issue/
