Hi, maybe this is a dumb question, but all links on my page already are affiliate-links with my Germany affiliate ID in it.
Can the plugin also convert those links to international links if, let’s say for example, an American visitor clicks on a link on my page?
Basically I am asking if all links have to be “clean” direct Amazon links without any affiliate ID in it, in order for them to work.
    Thanks!!

Yes, the plugin works for all Amazon links – irrespective of whether they have an affiliat ID or not.

e.g. if your link is amazon.de/xyzz….&tag=YOUR_GERMAN_TAG, and a visitor clicks on the link from US, he will be directed to amazon.com/…..&tag=YOUR_US_TAG

If the link is clean without any affiliate id – i.e. amazon.de/xyz… then it will be automatically converted to affiliate links for the visitor country. If the visitor is from Germany, the redirect link will be amazon.de/xyzz….&tag=YOUR_GERMAN_TAG and if he is from US, the redirect link will be amazon.com/…..&tag=YOUR_US_TAG

    Hope that makes sense?

One quick note – the YOUR_GERMA_TAG and YOUR_US_TAG in the post above will be the ones you provide in your BestAzon setting in WordPress admin. We can only add the affiliate tags that you provide to us.

In the example above, you also need to provide YOUR_GERMAN_TAG even if your links are already affiliated. The way the plugin logic works – we first covert all links to clean links without any affiliate ID and then add an affiliate ID correspondign to the country. SO its important that you provide the affiliate tag for the base country as well, even though your links are already affiliated.

Actually, recently we had to change to new affiliate IDs, and no matter what we do in BestAzon setup the link redirection just keep redirecting to the old affiliate IDs. That was finally resolved by redoing all the links so that they are clean. Maybe Amazon changed something on their end too, but that is just something worth considering if you recently change your affiliate IDs and are having redirection issues.

Thats correct… we recently made changes to honor existing affiliate IDs in the link. This allows you to use multiple affliateIDs on the ame site if you want to track diferent pages etc.

However, your point is valid! It may be useful to provide that as an option to the users – either honor the existing codes, or to always use a single ID given in settings page

Stay tuned.. the next rollout should have this.

So, to clarify, as of now, this is how the plugin works:

if your link is amazon.de/xyzz….&tag=YOUR_ORIGINAL_GERMAN_TAG, and a visitor clicks on the link from US, he will be directed to amazon.com/…..&tag=YOUR_US_TAG_IN_BESTAZON_SETTINGS

if your link is amazon.de/xyzz….&tag=YOUR_GERMAN_TAG, and a visitor clicks on the link from Germany, he will be directed to amazon.de/xyzz….&tag=YOUR_ORIGINAL_GERMAN_TAG,

If the link is clean without any affiliate id – i.e. amazon.de/xyz… then it will be automatically converted to affiliate links for the visitor country. If the visitor is from Germany, the redirect link will be amazon.de/xyzz….&tag=YOUR_GERMAN_TAG_IN_BESTAZON_SETTINGS and if he is from US, the redirect link will be amazon.com/…..&tag=YOUR_US_TAG_IN_BESTAZON_SETTINGS

Cool. Thanks for the explanation and the efforts put into the development!

    Quick update on this.

The version 3.5 (released yesterday) now comes with an option to determine if the affiliate tag in the link is honored, or if its overridden by the affiliate tag you provide in the settings.
