• I know next to nothing about WP other than what I’ve done with the “wordpress.com” web-based instance with my web site (rrwsl.org.) I’d like to add more functionality, like email hosting, forums, etc, and I *think* that I have to “install WordPress” in order to download and install plugins, but I’m not entirely sure what that means. Our site is hosted through Hostlane.com…do I install it there? I’m afraid that if I do, it will mess up our web site, and I’m fearful of how long that might be screwed up if I do it! All the how-tos I’ve seen in the forums jump right to the “how to install,” but I’m not really sure if that’s what I even need to do. Any help would be appreciated!

You do. see Installing_WordPress. Install WP in a sub-folder off your main domain so that it does not interfere with your current site.

You should do a careful install and create a subdomain in order to DO NOT overwrite your website.

You do NOT need to create a subdomain. In fact, that may cause further problems longer term.

main domain…sub domain. Did I mention that I’m basically WordPress illiterate? ??

    Your main domain is rrwsl.org
A subfolder off the main domain would be: rrwsl.org/wordpress
    A sub-domain would be: wordpress.rrwsl.org

You want to install WP in a sub-folder – not a subdomain.

I don’t know why esmi are deleting my responses, even when I’m just trying to help the user. Just let me colaborate with other users.

Returning the issue, I recommend you to ask for professional help if you are not confident to work with domains or subdomains. As I wrote in the last DELETED message you could use a directory do do a safe install.

    Thanks,

FWIW, I, personally, have only deleted 1 of your posts. However, we are having to edit every one of your posts across multiple topics to remove the ad-signature that you are including in every one. This is contrary to the forum rules – as we have informed you repeatedly (see above). Until you stop this, all of your posts will be held for moderation.

Ok, I’m gonna stop to append the signature, but let me help another users.
