Will Database Update overwrite my customizations?

Hello, thanks in advance for your help.

I have developed a custom wordpress installation for someone and they are getting the “Database Update Required” message.

Will updating the database overwrite/remove all the custom tables/columns I created?

I cannot bypass this step.
