Relevanssi – Wildcard for Search Terms

    Hello!

    I am using the Relevanssi – A Better Search Plugin.

    I am working on a site search that uses a location dropdown (location is a category attached to a custom post type).

    The default selection of the dropdown is ‘any’ and that works great, as long as they enter a search term.

    The issue arises if someone skips the search terms and just uses the dropdown. This leads to a 404 page, because the search term is NULL. I am expecting to get everything returned, instead I get nothing.

    Is there a wildcard character that I can send instead that will return everything, so that the drop-down filter can do its thing?

    Sorry, nope. I think the best solution would be to send the user to the category page if no search term is entered. That shouldn’t be impossible to do.

    That is exactly what I would like to happen. I was looking for a way to have blank searches return everything on the first step, so that the filters would leave me with the category they picked.

    I am having trouble figuring out where I can hook into the search process to code that up.

    Figured it out!
    I had to setup permalinks for the location category, the one I use as a dropdown.

    Excellent Plugin, Excellent Support, keep up the good work.
