So… I’m not sure if this is where to ask the question, but here goes…

I am trying to set up a wordpress site for our church. I am pretty comfortable with wordpress as a blogging platform, but i am trying to use it more like a cms.

to this end, i would like to utilize the category feature to separate my content. i am using the SimplePie plugin and the short code [parse_feed feed="https://my_site/my_wordpress_install/?cat=7&feed=rss2" number="5"]

for some reason, when the plugin parses the feed, it includes posts from EVERY category, instead of just category 7. If I subscribe to the feed in google reader, it only shows the single post in category 7, but on the page with the short code, it’s showing all the posts…

anybody having this issue besides me? any thoughts how to fix it?

    Thanks,

    matt

Well, for what it’s worth, I think I figured it out.

It seems that the plugin can’t understand the feed url unless permalinks are enabled. the standard /?cat=7&feed=rss2 is not understood by the feed parser. If I pass the feed through feedburner or use /category/categoryname/feed permalinks, it works fine.

    Thanks,
    Matt
