Widtget in article editor always shows “Loading, please wait …”

The test post works fine in my account at mastodon.xyz, however the widget shown on the sidebar of the article editor always shows “Loading, please wait …” and posting like that doesn’t post the actual article.

I thought some of my Javascript / filtering extensions were interferring (using Firefox in Debian) but was able to reproduce this in Chromium too.
