I upgraded from 2.3.3 to 2.5 with no obvious problem (deleted wp-admin, wp-includes, etc.). Now, the widgets.php page is blank.

I have re-uploaded site files; confirmed that widgets.php, specifically, uploaded correctly; and deactivated all plugins, with no success.

Still checking, but all else appears to work correctly.

  • You and I have the same problem. Hmmm… I wonder what happened here. Now I’m a bit scared to upgrade my other sites. OTL.

    Here is the error:

[08-Apr-2008 11:23:01] PHP Fatal error: Only variables can be passed by reference in /home/camdenga/public_html/blog/wp-admin/widgets.php on line 21

The blank page occurs because the PHP fails to fully process. (My server runs 5.0.5) I just cleared up a similar problem in a Joomla installation; the fix involved removing an ampersand (&) from a line of code.

That’s where my expertise ends! Now that I have the error, I am going to do a little more searching.

Same error on fresh install, running PHP4.3.4

I solved this one by updating PHP to 5.2.5
