Widgets won’t configure

  • I have installed the sidebar widgets, and they were working just fine. I added some text widgets, and those worked fine, until I used a UL tag to indent the content some to fit better on my theme. Since then I have been unable to confiugure ANY of my widgets. That is, the little box on the right of each widget that you click to bring up more details about the content of that widget is not working. Nothing happens.

    I have tried deletinig the text widgets, de-activating and re-activating the plugin, i even re-installed the widgets via ftp to see if the overwrite would help. Nothing – it is as if I hadn’t done anything. In short, I would like to get the ability to edit my widgets back, but they seem stuck.

    The drag and drop functionality works fine – it is just the individual ones remain uneditable.

  • I just started having this porblem as well, and as far as I can recall I have not installed anything new. Running 2.21 currently.

    I am wondering if maybe something on my hosting servers was updated – MySQL or something like that – that causes these errors. Would explain why these issues are suddenly appearing even for those of us who have not done any tweaking on the user end.

    I’m no coder and therefore have no idea where to even start looking to determine of this is a valid avenue to pursue.

    Same problem here… Can’t configure widgets anymore. They show up, but the information put into the widget will not save… Anyone ??

    It is not a bug in WordPress. Widgets work fine. If there are any issues with them, then it’s either: a) your browser, b) your hosting provider, or c) your specific setup.

    The javascript has to load from the site to the browser for widgets to work. If that fails in any way, then they don’t work. So either your browser isn’t running the javascript, your host isn’t sending the javascript, or your setup is screwed up and maybe doesn’t even have the javascript.

    Nobody here can solve this for you because it’s not a WordPress problem. It’s a problem with your site. All we can do is tell you what you need to check. Check that the javascript files are all there. Check that your browser isn’t having javascript errors put into the browser’s error console. Check that your host isn’t running mod_security or some other such thing. That’s the sort of thing you need to look for.

    After deleting plugins one by one it was Wassup plugin that was bugging… after deleting that, i was able to
    configure widgets again ?? pfffffff

    I found another widget that was causing the probs for me – WP Vivtiger Image Resizer.

    Disabled that one and all is working again.

    It was an old 1.02 version, the newer 1.5 version seems to be working fine so far.

    Ich have testet 5 Browser, 6 different PC, 3 Provider.

    Widgets in WP 2.3.1 don’t work fine!

    It seems everyone that has solved this has had a plugin causing the issue, I would start by either disabling all your plugins and turning them on one by one to test, or alternatively turn them off one by one and test.

    My guess is that anyone with this issue will find it was a widget causing the bug.

    I had deactivated all Pluguins, nothing works fine.

    I have been having this same problem for some time now. Today I upgraded to 2.3.2 without any trouble. The only issue is I still can not do anything new with widgets. I have removed all plugins and have removed all widgets. This didn’t work. I then deleted my entire site and rebuilt it from the 2.3.2 zip file. The only thing left from the old site is the database. No themes or plugins other then the defaults.

    Still I am not able to make changes to the widgets.

    OK, after going one step further I have figured out where I have the problem. It is in the database somewhere. I change the database prefix in wp-config.php. Installed a new database using this new prefix and everything works fine.

    So, how do I go about exporting all my articles from one to the other?

    And on more test. I imported everything from the other version of the database and now I have the same problem.

    Ok, I have done some more testing and found that adding any code to a text widget causes me to get the following error:

    You don’t have permission to access /wp-admin/widgets.php on this server.

    Removing the text element doesn’t work to resolve this. I have to edit the text field and delete the code.

    I get this trying to add google adsense code.

    This happens on a default install of 2.3.2

    not sure if this will help or not, but have you checked the file attributes of the widget.php file? With my install (only 5 days old) I hecked the file attribute of said file and it was set to 644 (which means only Owner has write abilities). I know I have often had to on previous sites given some files a value of 777 or 776. (I use filezilla, not sure if these values mean anything to anyone else). Could this be to problem of the “You don’t have permission to access” error?

    I know I have a default install as well. Was going to install this plugin, but due to all the problems I thought I would wait.
