    Whenever I go to wp-admin/widgets.php, page crashes and website becomes unreachable for about 30 minutes.

    That sounds like a server issue to me. Is this the only page it crashes on? Have you tried to disable all your plugins and then go to the widget section? Possibly change the theme temporarily then go to the widget section? Would be curious to know if these solved your problem.

    Thank you for replying. Yes, I tried all those things after looking at previous posts. The problem remains. We use the GoDaddy.com hosting service, and I don’t mean to sound critical, but I have never experienced so many problems with WordPress in my life until we used that host. I have spoke to them several times on the phone, and they keep “checking for malware“ yet find no problems and I have no additional help. They have been encouraging me to dump WordPress and use their proprietary website system for a fee, but I don’t want to give up on WordPress yet.

    Is there a way I can share screen shots?

    OK, I added the “Classic Widgets” plugin and it seems to have fixed the problem. But why?
